  1. Apply for a pin number at www.pin.ed.gov if you do not already have one.
  2. Apply for a pin number for your parent if you are a dependent student; you are dependent if you answer NO to every questions in section 2 of FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.   A parent must sign for a dependent student.  Pin #s are used as electronic signatures when completing the FAFSA online.  It may take up to ten (10) business days to receive your processed FAFSA form.
  3. You will need records of income earned in the year prior to when you will start school. You may also need records of your parent's income information if you are a dependent student.

For the 2007-2008 school year, you will need financial information from 2006. You will need to refer to:

Your Social Security Number (can be found on Social Security card)

Your driver's license (if any)

Your W-2 Forms and other records of money earned

Your alien registration card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

In addition, you can display and print a non-submittable FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.  This will prepare you to follow the online FAFSA Form outline.

Keep these records! You may need them again.
