The Nurse Aide Program at the Schuylkill Technology Center (STC) is scheduled to begin in September 2006. This
program is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level
employment in a variety of health care roles, including, but
not limited to:
Nurse Aide in long term care
facilities (i.e. nursing homes)
Home Health Aide
Direct Care Worker/Human Services in
residential and private home settings
In addition to a core nurse aide
training component that contains mainly the elements
specified by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987
for training nurse aides for employment in nursing homes,
students have the opportunity to select from one of three
areas of specialization to complete the program.
Each student must complete a total of 140 hours as
listed.

Nurse Assistant Long Term
Care (LTC) plus
Upon successful completion of
all program requirements, graduates of the program may be
eligible to take the Nurse Aide Competency Examination for
listing on the Pennsylvania state registry.
The Nurse Aide Program is
comprised of classroom theory, lab practice and a supervised
clinical practicum at a local nursing home, as well as an
8-hour field placement for those individuals who choose the
Direct Care Worker speciality. Program areas of study
