In order to connect to the IEP Writer web site, you must use a 4th-generation Web browser that supports SSL (128-bit), cookies, and Javascript. Starting with Internet Explorer 5.5, 128-bit SSL is standard. For previous versions of Internet Explorer, installation of the High Encryption Pack might be required to make the browser 128-bit SSL capable. The updates are small, quick and painless to install.

Browsers
To use this site, you must use a Web browser that supports SSL (128-bit), cookies, and Javascript. Browsers that meet these requirements include Netscape Navigator (or Communicator) 4.7x, Netscape 7.0, Mozilla 1.5, and Internet Explorer 4.x and up. We recommend one of the following browsers:

Mozilla 1.5: Available from Mozilla.org by clicking here

Netscape Navigator 7.1: Available from Netscape Communications by clicking here

Internet Explorer 6: Available from Microsoft Corporation by clicking here

Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free piece of software that you'll need in order to view or print an I.E.P. You can download this free software by clicking here

Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack
Versions of Internet Explorer prior to 5.5 did not, by default, incorporate the SSL 128-bit encryption that is required to access the IEP Writer system. High Encryption Packs to update Internet Explorer versions 4, 5.0 or 5.01 to 128-bit encryption are available from Microsoft Corporation by clicking here

Settings for Cookies and Javascript
Additionally, your browser must be configured to accept cookies and run Javascript. These settings are generally enabled by default. To check if your browser has these options enabled:

Netscape Navigator
Click Edit --> Preferences. In the Category Window, click the + next to Privacy and Security, and select Cookies. On the right side of the screen, make sure there is a checkmark in the Enable All Cookies, or, if you prefer tighter security settings for cookies, make sure that you allow cookies for IEP.IU29.ORG (please refer to the Netscape documentation for specifics). In the Category Window, click the + next to Advanced, and select Scripts and Plugins. On the right side of the screen, make sure there is a checkmark in the Enable Javascript box next to Navigator, and that the radio-button Accept all cookies is enabled.

Internet Explorer 6
Click Tools --> Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Click the Custom Level button. Scroll down to Active Scripting and make sure that Enabled is selected. Click the Privacy tab and select Medium (which is the default; if you otherwise customize your settings for cookies, you must allow first-party cookies in order for IEP.IU29.ORG to function). Click OK.

If you are using a third-party cookie-blocking utility, check the product's documentation to change your settings to allow cookies for IEP.IU29.ORG.

Proxy Servers and Browser Caches
Caching refers to the local storage of web pages on a local school district server or your browser's cache in order to improve performance. Caching, however, can disrupt the proper operation of IEP.IU29.ORG. Proxy servers at your school district should be set to NOT cache pages from IEP.IU29.ORG, as this could interfere with the proper operation of the site. Additionally, your web browser should be set to NOT cache pages.

In Internet Explorer, click Tools -> Internet Options. Click the Settings button under Temporary Internet Files and choose the option Every visit to the page under Check for newer version of the stored page. Click OK twice.

In Netscape Navigator 4.7x, click Edit -> Preferences. In the Advanced Category (you may have to click the + sign next to the word Advanced), click Cache. On the right side of the screen, select the option Every time under Document in cache is compared to document on network. Click OK.

In Mozilla, click Edit -> Preferences. In the Advanced Category (you may have to click the + sign next to the word Advanced), click Cache. On the right side of the screen, select the option Every time I view the page under Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network. Click OK.
