Phase III: The Work-Study Program

Phase II: The Work-Study Program

Offers students ages 16 and older a program that emphasizes off-campus, paid, community integrated employment and training in areas of individual interest.  The goal of the program is to acquaint students with various types of off-campus work experiences with the intent that they will develop occupational competencies, become self-reliant, contribute in earning their own living and become active participants in society, both economically and socially.

The Work Mentor coordinator seeks employment that suits the interests, educational and demographic needs of students interested in work study. Students who may find part-time or full-time work positions require the assistance of the Work Mentor coordinator in fulfilling the requirements of all legal provisions i.e. IDEA, child labor laws, district and I.U. policies, etc.  Follow-up observations, evaluations, and work-study grades are the combined responsibility of the Work Mentor coordinator in conjunction with the worksite supervisor.  The Work Mentor coordinator reports all transactions to the appropriate supervisor.

The ultimate goal of our program is to assist students with disabilities in developing self-confidence and vocational competencies which are vital in seeking, securing, and retaining employment.  All phases include a balance between individual and group instruction, directed toward developing their interpersonal and vocational competencies necessary to attain gainful employment.  The programs offered to exceptional children have the advantage to include sufficient flexibility and latitude to accommodate their wide range of abilities, needs and interests.
