Executive Director Statement:
“Earlier today, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced that all school employees and contractors would be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine under a plan that sets aside doses for teachers and other essential workers. Pennsylvania’s Intermediate Units, our Commonwealth’s educational services agencies, are pleased to play a central role in coordinating this essential work with our partners at the Governor’s Office, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Association (PEMA), and the Pennsylvania National Guard. In this statewide vaccination effort, the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit is honored to serve as a host site for the operations and administration of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccines to Schuylkill County’s school employees and contractors. These vaccination efforts provide another mitigation strategy within our respective school Health and Safety plans to increase the level of in-person instruction across Pennsylvania. The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit stands ready to serve and support this important work in every way possible.”What We Know:
- The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit will be utilized as a host-site for the Army National Guard and AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, LLC to administer J&J COVID-19 vaccines to eligible school employees and contractors for the public and non-public local education agencies (LEAs) served by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit.
- The vaccine allocations per local education agency (LEA) have been established by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) based on an equitable and prioritized system.
- The vaccination site operations, scheduling, and administration of the vaccines are being directed by the Army National Guard and AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, LLC. The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit’s role is limited to serving as a host site for these vaccinations and to provide facility support and assistance as may be needed.
